About sightseeing-madrid.com

Sightseeing-Madrid wants to present the city of Madrid to the visitor and also to those Madrilians that want to know a little bit more about their city.

From a little village with few inhabitants Madrid has become one of Europe´ s leading capitals. There are hundreds, we repeat: hundreds, of different activities every day: sport events involving some of the most famous football teams in the world, cultural events including concerts, exhibitions at the Prado or the Thyssen-Bornemizsa museums, fairs dedicated to fashion or technology, and whatever you can imagine.

But Madrid is also a city full of history. Since Felipe II, who established the court in the city, it has been connected to all historical events. The most famous Spanish writers lived in the streets next to Plaza de Santa Ana, in the Literary Quarter, where actors and actresses tried to find a job in the old theaters. And let us not forget the Spanish painters like Velázquez or Goya, who lived next to the Kings and Queens they portrait in their paintings.
When Madrid became the capital of the kingdom the little village of farmers changed. Noblemen, rich landowners, craftsmen, but also burglars and villains came to the city. As the number of inhabitants increased, also their needs grew. More shops and markets were opened, the first inns and taverns offered a little shelter in the cold winter and hot summer.

In this webpage we have tried to bring Madrid closer to the reader. We will tell you the origin of the most popular streets, the stories behind the many fountains and statues you will see during your walks through the city center and even some mysterious events that took place in some old buildings.

The aim of Sightseeing-Madrid is just transmit the love we feel for this city to all readers and encourage them to follow us through its streets and feeling history come alive.

Thank you for visiting us.
