The exhibition was presented by Thierry-Maxime Loriot, curator and project director of Fashion and Design at the Musee des Beaux-Arts of Montreal,  Jean Paul Gaultier and Pablo Jimenez Burillo, general director of the Culture Institute of Fundacion Mapfre.

Jean Paul Gaultier
(1952, Arcueil, Francia) already started showing his interest in fashion as a kid with his independent style.  Pierre Cardin hired him when he was 18 years old. He also worked for Jacques Esterel and Jean Patou.
In  1976 he started with his pret-a-porter collections. In 1981 he had his own fashion shop and presented his collections twice a year. In 2004 he presented his first collection for Hermes.
In 1983 his first corset dresses appeared. They would become a symbol of his trade mark.
He has also designed costumes for movies and shows, especially for Madonna. He has also worked with Pedro Almodovar designing, for example, the wardrobe for The Skin I live in. He has created his own perfume line.

Jean Paul Gaultier exhibition Jean Paul Gaultier wants his designs to be like a second skin. He demands the right for every person to be different and not following a certain stereotype.

The exhibition is not only an example of his works; it is a work of art itself. Over 100 models, sketches, photographies, etc. that revolve around the couturier also reflect the Spanish influence (mantillas, boleros) in his works.

The exhibition has been divided into six sections:

  • Gaultier's Odyssey (images of the designer that have become icons)
  • The Boudoir (details of his childhood with his grandmother)
  • Skin-deep (skin and body as inspiration)
  • Punk cancán (identification with punk)
  • Urban Jungle (multietnic influences in his models)
  • Metropolis (experiments with new fabrics and collaboration with Pedro Almodovar)

The exhibition is opened on Mondays from 14:00 to 20:00, from Tuesdays to Saturdays from 10:00 to 20:00 and on Sundays and holidays from 11:00 to 19:00. Entrance is free.
